Destination Wedding- ICELAND- Sydney and Alex

This job as a wedding photographer has presented in front of me some of life’s most amazing moments. I have loved every single wedding that I’ve been able to be a part of. I have put myself into every single wedding- no matter how big or small, expensive or budget, close to home or far away. Suffice it to say though that when you get the opportunity to shoot an elopement of two incredibly special people in a country most people only dream of going to- it is a dream come true.

Sydney, the bride, holds an incredibly special place in team KKP. If you’ve been a client of ours or a vendor friends of ours anytime since the year 2015- you most likely at one point or another interacted with Sydney. She’s been the behind the scenes girl of our business ever since the day she sent me a ‘cold call’ email that said ‘I’d like to work for you.’ Honestly- I didn't even know what I had for her to do, but I said yes. BOY was I wrong. I didn’t even know the half of what I needed her to do- but she came in and did it. Over the next few years- her work helped to transform KKP and take our business to a completely other level. Even after her move to Minnesota a few years ago- she continues to work behind the scenes to help our business succeed. I can definitely tip my hat to her as a strong reason I was able to go back to teaching. She has helped and continues to help put processes into place that allow me to be successful in both careers. I am always so grateful for her!

But back to this wedding:). I always knew the engagement of Sydney and Alex was coming! Obviously- working in the wedding industry- we used to talk about it quite a bit:). I was SO EXCITED when she let me know that she was finally engaged!!!!! When she dropped the bomb they were considering destination and wanted me there- I was all game. But when she said ICELAND. Wow. There was a moment, just a slight one, of ‘whoa…Iceland…that’s like REALLY far away.’ But I knew I wouldn’t miss it for the world. When my husband agreed to let our 13 year old daughter come with me- I was even more excited. I knew this was going to be incredible.

Iceland is an incredible country. The flight is quicker than you think. The beauty of the country Is indescribable. The food is WAY more expensive than you prepare yourself for. But there were things that we saw in Iceland that I’ve never seen before, and will never see the likes of again. The waterfalls. The natural springs. The geysers. The mountains. Just absolutely incredible.

I was so thankful that Sydney, as a photographer herself, understood the importance of pictures. I know not every wedding day has this ability to devote a few hours to photos- but this couple did. We traveled all over the countryside taking photos. It was fun and adventurous and an absolute dream come true. We ended the day with a private ceremony on a beach with an officiant with the best accent and a horn full of an alcohol substance that was disgusting:). The day was absolutely perfect and I will never stop being grateful for this experience.

These pictures, while some of the ones I’m most proud of, don’t even do it justice. Some of the amazing drone shots were courtesy of Trevor Maloch, the videographer who also made the trip with us (who…small world..I also shot his wedding!). Maybe one day we’ll go back- but I’m so grateful for this incredible wedding!!
